How to learn tones?

I'm curious to hear your experience with learning tonal languages.
I think for those who don't have tones in their first language(s), it's very hard to learn to distinguish tones and an even greater challenge to learn and produce them correctly in normal speech!
So, language learners of the world, what are some of your tips and tricks to learn tones?

my native is not a tonal language, so what I do is to rely on the accented letter to know where to emphasize, like in Spanish bebé or papá. If there is not accented letter, I am still struggling. I will try to remember how it is pronounce in the audio I have listened to.
