“Have a good weekend”; “Have a good evening” – how to wish someone a good time in Indonesian

★ 21

One thing to remember here is that “have” here is not literally means “to own” or “to possess”. ‘Have’ here is more like a wish, like it supposedly begin with ‘hopefully you’ – ‘hopefully you have a good weekend’; or ‘hopefully you have a good evening’.

In Indonesian, ‘hopefully’ is translated as ‘semoga’. Let’s translate those sentences:

  1. Have a good weekend

Technically we can also say ‘Hopefully you have a good weekend’, or even ‘Hopefully your

weekend is good’

In Indonesia we say: ‘Semoga akhir pekanmu baik’

  1. Have a good evening – Semoga malammu baik
  2. Have a nice trip – Semoga perjalananmu menyenangkan
  3. Have a wonderful day – Semoga harimu luar biasa

What does mean of " akhir"? I don't know. But other examples very clear for me. Thank you.

"akhir" means "end". In that example it was refer to weekend, week = pekan, end = akhir so weekend = akhir pekan. But it is also common nowadays to just say "weekend" when you are speaking in Indonesian.
