List of Japanese hiragana & katakana

N
★ 7

For starters, we all know that some specific countries has its own unique syllabaries, they are not using the (as we know) common used latin alphabet (a-z). One of the country that has its own unique syllabaries is Japan. They are using hiragana and katakana.

Hiragana is a syllabary used to form the Japanese grammar. And katakana is a special syllabary used to write foreign languages words, or occasionally used to write something that has double meaning that the writer wants to express (mainly by young people).

If you are interested in learning Japanese, I recommend you to remember hiragana first, and then katakana second as one of the first thing you must know about the language. You can see the the list of hiragana and katakana below.

List of hiragana in order and how it sounds:

あ a い i う u え e お o

か ka き ki く ku け ke こ ko

さ sa し shi す su せ se そ so

た ta ち chi つ tsu て te と to

な na に ni ` ぬ nu ね ne の no

は ha ひ hi ふ fu へ he ほ ho

ま ma み mi む mu め me も mo

や ya ゆ yu よ yo

ら ra り ri る ru れ re ろ ro

わ wa を wo ん nn (n)

List of katakana in order and how it sounds:

ア a イ i ウ u エ e オ o

カ ka キ ki ク ku ケ ke コ ko

サ sa シ shi ス su セ se ソ so

タ ta チ chi ツ tsu テ te ト to

ナ na ニ ni ヌ nu ネ ne ノ no

ハ ha ヒ hi フ fu ヘ he ホ ho

マ ma ミ mi ム mu メ me モ mo

ヤ ya ユ yu ヨ yo

ラ ra リ ri ル ru レ re ロ ro

ワ wa ヲ wo ン nn (n)

My tips for remembering hiragana and katakana is to remember the a-i-u-e-o pattern. That pattern is used in the next group (ka-ki-ku-ke-ko) until the rest of it. What you need to remember is the first character of the group, that is a, ka, sa, ta, na, ..., wa. Then you can proceed to remember the characters.
