Personally, I have found this method very helpful. I have learned most of my English from TV shows and video games.
Yes, this method has proven to be a good one! I speak from personal experience. There are a lot of people who learned the basics of a language through movies, series...and then upgraded that knowledge.
I, for example, understand a lot of Spanish, I learned that through Latin American soap operas :) But, I don't know how to speak in Spanish because I haven't practiced enough, unfortunately. :(

At first, it might seem that actually learning anything by doing this is very difficult, but after some time, the words will become quite familiar to you. Listening to music or watching TV shows in a language that you're trying to learn can be very helpful in training your hearing. It would be like hearing the radio in your native language while you're in another room. You don't have to concentrate at all, yet you still understand everything that's being said. Also, adding subtitles helps a lot when watching a show in a foreign language.
Absolutely yes! I was learning Japanese by myself which at first is a language I know nothing about with watching their movies, and musics. I focused on feeling their emotion when speaking each words. When there is a noticeable scene like they're happy or angry, I want to hear what they actually say and remember it, and then my vocabulary is piling up one by one. I call this method is a natural learning, because it has the same case with how a baby learns to speak as they growing up with only feeling the speaker's emotion and remembering words one by one.

Odgledao sam preko 100 korejskih filmova, i znam manje od 10 reči na korejskom :) Iz španskih serija sam i ja naučio dosta reči, tako da verovatno mnogo zavisi i od jezika. Mislim da filmovi mogu da pomognu ako se koristi i još nešto pored toga, ali ako vam je to jedini način učenja morate da imate baš mnogo slobodnog vremena da bi to donelo rezultate.
