Spanish in Spain vs Spanish in Latin America

★ 21

Spanish is the fourth most spoken language in the world, with least 20 countries in the world speaking Spanish. However, depending on what country you visit, you will notice several grammar and vocabulary differences.

One of the most notable differences is with Spain and Latin American countries with the personal pronoun “you”. In Spanish, the informal way of saying “you” would be “tú” and the formal way of saying “you” would be “usted”. However, in Latin America the plural form for “you” would be “ustedes” and in Spain “vosotros” in both formal and informal occasions. Each of these forms have their own way of conjugating the verb.

Let’s take as an example the verb “comer” (to eat)
