Word order in...
When I first started learning English, whenever we learned some tense, we used to write three sentences for some verb in that tense - positive, negative and question (by inversion). That is useful to practice in German too, because that is a basis for every sentence that you can construct in a language. When you want to say something more complicated, you just add more description words to the sentence or combine multiple sentences, but if you don't know well how to work with simple sentences you have a problem with making more complicated structures.
Let's practice word order by writing those 3 sentences for present tense, simple past tense and general past tense.
Präsens
Du gehst ins Kino. -----> I am going to the cinema.
Du gehst ins Kino nicht. ------> I am not going to the cinema. nicht goes to the end of sentence
Gehst du ins Kino? -------> Are you going to the cinema?
Präteritum
Du warst gut. -----> You were good.
Du warst nicht gut. -----> You weren't good. here we made negation of adjective "gut", so it is like good/not good --> gut/nicht gut
Warst du gut? ----> Were you good?
Perfekt
Du bist ins Kino gegangen. ----> You went to the cinema.
Du bist ins Kino nicht gegangen. -----> You didn't go to the cinema. participle of past tense has to come last, so nicht goes right before it
Bist du ins Kino gegangen? -----> Did you go to the cinema?
