Writing letters with accent

★ 21

I am currently learning Spanish and my native language does not have accented letters. On the phone, I can just press a letter longer so there is an option where I can choose which accented letter that I want to use. But when writing on the computer, my keyboard does not have that option. Usually I just go to a website to see the letters with accents, and then copy them to my writing window.

Spanish has these á, é, í, ó, ú, ü, ñ, ¿, ¡ letters and accents that English or other languages without accents do not have. I found a shortcut to write these.

For á, é, í, ó, ú, press Ctrl + ‘, and then press the letter. So:

á = Ctrl + ‘ + a

é = Ctrl + ‘ + e

í = Ctrl + ‘ + i

ó = Ctrl + ‘ + o

ú = Ctrl + ‘ + a

For ü, press Ctrl + Shift + :/; and then press the letter u.

For ñ, press Ctrl + Shift + ~/` and then press the letter n.

For ¡ and ¿, there is a code:

¡ = Alt + 0161

¿ = Alt + 0191

This method works in Microsoft Office for Windows. Anyone have any other tips?
