In German, some prepositions can take Akkusativ or Dativ.
It depends on whether the sentence shows motion (Akkusativ) or location (Dativ).
🔑 Rule of Thumb
- Akkusativ → motion, direction (Wohin? = Where to?)
- Dativ → position, no motion (Wo? = Where?)
Common Two-Way Prepositions
auf (on)
in (in/into)
an (at/on)
unter (under)
über (over)
vor (in front)
hinter (behind)

zwischen (between)
